The Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (Desalcott) maintains its position as the largest operating desalination facility in the western hemisphere. The plant produces and supplies potable water to the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) at the current operating capacity of 40MIGD (Million imperial gallons per day). 

Desalcott is seeking to recruit dynamic, suitably qualified OPERATORS

Job Scope:

Operators at all levels will have the responsibility for the efficient running of the plant, ensuring delivery of specified quantity by maximizing production capabilities within set operating parameters and procedures. Critical to this is extending equipment life and safeguarding production assets whilst reducing operating cost and protecting the environment through water and energy conservation. 

Overall Goals and Objectives:

1. Perform plant inspections and area rounds as directed by the Shift Supervisor.

2. Complete and log all readings as assigned by the Shift Supervisor.

3. Communicate all findings to Shift Supervisor on a regular basis so that plant performance in the assign work area can be properly monitored. The data and logs sheets must be signed off by the shift supervisor at a minimum of every 3 hours.

4. Follow all safety requirements of the plant and ensure that all personnel in the assigned work area adhere to these requirements.

5. Promote operator driven reliability of the plant so that plant production is always optimised.

6. Protect the environment through minimizing losses i.e. through minimizing discharges through water & energy conservation.

7. Perform any other plant related tasks as assigned by the Shift Supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Plant Safety Requirements including knowledge of the Work Request/Work Permit System, Confine Space Entry and the Lock Out/Tag Out Procedures.

2. Thorough understanding of the plant flow paths.

3. Basic knowledge of all plant, equipment, their locations and maintenance requirements.

4. Good working knowledge of the desalination process.

5. Sampling Procedures.

6. Area rounds including that of the RO Trains and the proper filling out of Log Sheets.

7. Basic knowledge of the HMI.

8. Working knowledge of the Reverse Osmosis Systems. 

9. Working knowledge of all piping systems on plant including the run of all underground piping.

10. Product Water Quality Control

11. Electrical Overview of the plant

12. Execution of SOP’s including:

 Plant Start Up and Shut Down procedures

 Emergency Operating Procedures

 CIP procedures 

 All other procedures as per the SOP Manual

 

Qualifications:

1. 5 O’Level passes inclusive of Mathematics and English

2. Certificate in Process Plant Operations from a recognized institution

3. Diploma in Chemical and Process Engineering from a recognized institution

4. BSc Chemical and Process Engineering from a recognized institution

Note: The above four (4) qualifications criterion are generally Desalcott requirements for hiring persons to fill Operator position/s at varying levels. Candidates applying will be considered based on his/her qualifications and experience relevant for the positions available.
