Purpose of Role
Provide deep corrosion and materials engineering expertise and judgement in the service of the Region sub-functional teams in support of engineering risk and the delivery of safe, compliant and efficient operations.
The role is required to assist the PDUs on a day-to-day basis to ensure consistency in the corrosion engineering program. The senior corrosion engineer is required to assist in the development of the junior engineer.
Key Accountabilities
• Provide corrosion and materials engineering expertise to teams across Operations, Project & Mods, Maintenance, Turn Arounds and Subsea to manage corrosion and erosion threats on equipment for which they are the Equipment Class Owner.
• Ensure pragmatic solutions are identified and implemented to manage risk, production efficiency, defect elimination and standardization, to deliver safe, reliable and compliant operations.
• Own and maintain the corrosion threat assessment for the Region ensuring that the identified threats reflect current operations and use this to define, implement and manage Regional Corrosion and Materials mitigation programs across IM and other functions.
• Reviews and endorse corrosion related metrics ( e.g. corrosion control and LOPC data) and intervene as needed.
• Integrate with associated disciplines to ensure adequate equipment care, including production chemistry, pressure systems integrity, structural & civil engineering and pipeline engineering. Provide corrosion and materials engineering support in F4S barrier evaluations and incident investigations. Record relevant learning in shared learning systems, incorporate into local activities, specifications/practices/procedures and escalate high priority lessons
• Sand Assessments - Review ER probe and ASD data for ASD excursion window. Determine whether and how much erosion took place, determine whether real metal loss occurred or fluctuations noted due to process conditions. Make recommendations for startup, considering all data, ER probe ASD, CV, well history and production
• RBAs- For each piping circuit and pressure vessel, determine credible damage mechanisms, probabilty and consequence of LOPC, inspection frequency, coverage, plans - using inspection build documents, historical inspection reports
• Pipeline FLRA and Corrosion Assessments - Reviews credible damage mechanisms during FLRAs and risk rankings along with pipeline engineers
• Erosion Modelling - Use of Erosion and Corrosion models with process data and production chemistry inputs to calculate theoretical erosion and corrosion rates
• ER Probe PM report Reviews - Review ER probe report for anomalies, functionality issues and actions required
Required Qualifications & Essential Experience
• First Degree in the relevant engineering discipline.
• >12yrs experience within the Corrosion engineering field.
• Experience in dealing with mature assets will be valuable.
• Professional accreditation, such as Professional Engineer or Chartered Engineer
Desired Skill Sets & Desired Behaviors
• Deep technical expertise in several areas related to the discipline including materials selection, failure investigation, corrosion mechanisms, RBA/RBI (risk-based threat assessment and risk-based inspection), corrosion mitigation and monitoring, corrosion management, fabric maintenance, cathodic protection, welding, erosion and erosion management.
• Demonstrated ability to network and influence across organizational boundaries.
• Leadership in managing cross-functional teams and contractors to solve complex challenges, optimize costs, and drive continuous improvement. Excels in informed decision-making, performance ownership, and developing team capabilities through coaching and collaboration.
