The Stirrup Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the stirrup bending machine used in the manufacture of reinforcing steel products. The incumbent ensures that stirrups are produced according to specified dimensions, quality standards, and production schedules while maintaining equipment reliability and workplace safety.
Duties and Responsibilities
Machine Operation
- Operate the stirrup bending machine in accordance with established operating procedures.
- Set up machine parameters to produce stirrups according to required specifications.
- Monitor machine performance during operation and make adjustments where necessary.
- Ensure production targets are achieved while maintaining quality standards.
- Verify that finished products conform to approved dimensions and specifications.
Production Activities
- Handle and prepare raw materials for processing.
- Read and interpret rebar bending dimensions, drawings, and production instructions.
- Monitor material usage and report shortages to the Production Supervisor.
- Assist in minimizing waste and maximizing production efficiency.
- Ensure proper identification and storage of completed products.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate production reports and machine logs.
- Record quantities produced, downtime, maintenance activities, and production issues.
- Report equipment malfunctions and production concerns promptly.
- Assist in maintaining production records as required by management.
Preventive Maintenance
- Conduct routine inspections of the stirrup bending machine.
- Perform basic maintenance and cleaning activities in accordance with established procedures.
- Identify and report machine defects or abnormalities.
- Assist maintenance personnel during repairs when required.
- Ensure equipment is maintained in a clean and safe operating condition.
Safety and Compliance
- Comply with all Company safety policies and procedures.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Follow approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
General Responsibilities
- Work closely with supervisors and other production personnel to achieve operational targets.
- Participate in training programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Production Supervisor or Management.
Qualification Requirements
Education
- Minimum of three (3) CXC/CSEC passes, including:
- Mathematics
- English Language
- One additional subject
Experience
- Previous experience operating manufacturing equipment is preferred.
- Experience operating rebar bending, steel processing, or similar machinery would be a strong asset.
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to operate industrial machinery safely and efficiently.
- Understanding of rebar bending dimensions and production specifications.
- Ability to read and follow Standard Operating Procedures.
- Good mathematical and measurement skills.
- Ability to complete production reports accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Mechanical aptitude and basic troubleshooting ability.
- Safety-conscious mindset.
