Description
Responsibilities:
- Worksite Safety Monitoring:
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure work areas comply with safety standards and regulations.
- Enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure workers follow safe practices.
- Incident Reporting & Investigation:
- Report any safety incidents, near misses, or hazardous conditions promptly.
- Assist in investigating incidents, performing root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
- Safety Briefings:
- Lead daily toolbox talks, safety stand-ups, and pre-shift briefings for crews on shift.
- Clearly communicate safety expectations and updates.
- Safety Documentation & Compliance:
- Review and approve Safe Work Plans (SWPs) and Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs) for TAR activities.
- Ensure that confined space entries, hot work, and other high-risk tasks are properly monitored and controlled.
- Emergency Response Support:
- Act as a key contact in emergency situations, working with the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and participating in drills.
- Be prepared for rapid response to fires, medical emergencies, or chemical release incidents.
- Site Audits & Hazard Identification:
- Perform routine site audits, identify hazards, and ensure prompt corrective action is taken.
- Oversee high-risk activities, such as crane lifts, confined space entries, and hot work.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of safety activities, including shift reports, incident logs, and equipment inspections.
- Submit daily reports to the Nutrien Supervisor of Safety & Emergency Response.
Required Qualifications for Safety Officers:
Education & Certifications:
- NEBOSH or equivalent certification in Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) is required.
- Certifications in Emergency Response, First Aid/CPR/AED are advantageous.
- Minimum of 3-5 years in a safety role within industrial settings, ideally in oil & gas, petrochemicals, or ammonia/urea plants.
- Prior experience in turnaround or shutdown safety operations is mandatory.
- Familiarity with industry-standard safety protocols, high-risk procedures, and incident investigation processes
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA).
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills for directing on-site safety initiatives.
- Ability to work long shifts in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in risk assessment, hazard identification, and incident management.
- Report writing skills are mandatory.
