Description
Responsibilities and duties:
- Administrative support for the editorial team
- Preparing and routing all manuscripts through the production process
- Preparing P&Ls, contract requests, estimate requests, deal memos, and payment requests
- Tracking submissions; correcting manuscripts and preparing readers' reports; generating editorial notes
- Setting up and attending author and agent meetings, taking notes as needed
- Attending editorial board meetings, when appropriate
- Communicating and maintaining professional relationships with authors and agents
- Prioritizing and proactively executing a multitude of tasks including market research
- Obtaining rights to use materials from other publications
- Applying for ISBN numbers
- Using computers for word processing, desktop publishing and email
- Dealing with phone and email queries, e.g. from writers and the public
- Filing, photocopying and other routine administrative tasks
Knowledge of:
- The candidate will be a positive and proactive individual who can organize and prioritize many tasks.
- Creative thinking, problem-solving skills, and a good attitude are vital.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Interested in and have some knowledge of school curricula, syllabi, and education systems.
- Experience with basic office suite programs (Word, Excel, etc.) and some experience working with database programs is beneficial.
- Routine record keeping methods, practices, and procedures.
Working Conditions: Small, busy office with ongoing deadlines.
Physical Requirements: Sitting at a desk or computer for up to seven hours per day.
