Job Summary:
The Grade III Customs Manager is responsible for performing all functions required to ensure that all Company exports, imports and transshipments are cleared in an efficient and productive manner.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Calls shipping agents to verify arrival date of shipments.
  • Clears shipments from ports of entry in a timely manner.
  • Generates all required documentation for the clearance of shipments in accordance with Customs regulations to ensure that this takes place expediently. This may include, but is not limited to:
    • 1. Preparing customs entries on internal Customs programs (Asycuda/Moolah).
    • 2. Preparing and sending Customs entries on the relevant software for verification, validation and assessment.
    • 3. Lodging entries at the Customs House for approval.
  • Maintaining a proper log of the Ascyuda drawdown account and providing updates as necessary to Management on how funds have been received and paid out.
  • Ensures that all funds related to the clearing of shipments are received, and that all duties and rent are paid after entries have been approved by Customs.
  • Preparing the returns for Fisheries and Customs and Excise Division in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring any overtime on shipments incurred are paid in a timely manner.
  • Advising the Company of all requirements for the importation and exportation of goods and keeping abreast with all changes with respect to import, export and transshipment of cargo.
  • Liaises with Trinidad Customs to resolve all Customs queries.
  • Representing the Company at meetings with Immigration and Customs as necessary.
  • Assisting with the preparation of all necessary documentation required for the export of stock (including export shipping bills and transshipment documents) and makes arrangements for shipping.
  • Prepares and maintains all necessary reports, records and documentation in a timely manner. This may include but is not limited to:
    • Preparing vouchers for payment of handling charges, storage rent and freight charges.
    • All legally required record keeping related to the Customs Bond.
    • All necessary entries relating to the movement of stock through the Customs Bond.
    • Recording all entries cleared.
    • Updating shipment logs daily.
  • Monitoring the hours worked by the Boarding Clerk with a view to minimize overtime hours and ensure they are given time back for hours worked.

Requirements:
  • A minimum of five (5) CXC O’Level passes, two (2) of which must include English and Mathematics.
  • Must have Grade III Customs Clerk License. Evidence of the license must be submitted with the application/CV.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in customs clearance.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of Customs regulations and laws.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good numeracy skills. 
  • Must be able to work to deadlines.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools.
  • Must have a valid driver’s permit.
  • Having your own vehicle would be considered an asset.
